Surfing, Kayaking, and Rafting

The entire North Olympic Peninsula has many lakes, rivers, and shorelines that offer fresh and salt water opportunities for surfing, kayaking, river rafting, drift boating, and canoeing. The shores of the Hood Canal are ideal for endless exploring by small craft, as are the inland waters of the Strait of Juan De Fuca from Port Townsend to Neah Bay.

Freshwater Bay

This bay on the Strait of Juan de Fuca follows a rugged coastline. Paddle through kelp beds while looking for sea lions, bald eagles, harbor seals, otters and sea birds.

Lake Aldwell

Lake Aldwell is the place to get up close views of bald eagles, osprey, and tumpeter swans in the winter. The lake is west of Port Angeles in the shadow of the Olympic Mountains.

Dungeness Spit

Known for abundant wildlife, spectacular scenery, and an historic lighthouse, this natural, seven-mile long spit has become known as a real hidden treasure by area kayakers.

Lake Ozette

Lake Ozette, the third largest lake in Washington, is fed by numerous creeks. Its outlet is the Ozette River, which empties into the ocean. There are three islands on Lake Ozette making paddling a good adventure; Tivoli, Garden Island and a small overgrown postage stamp of an island.
